Malawi chairs are handmade using rattan strips, which are woven into intricate patterns along the sides of the chairs and the seat. Rather than using glue or nails which is common in European design, makers secure the strips with special knots.
It takes approximately 10 days for an artisan to make a chair. These samples have been finished in a resistant dark chocolate stain.
